Shed pounds with health program
The Hernando County Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the next Hernando Health Experience.
Initial weigh-ins will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Hernando County Health Department, 7551 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The final weigh-in will be April 7.
Open to adults and youths 14 and older (those younger than 18 must participate with a parent), the program is designed to help motivate, educate and support individuals and families seeking healthier lives.
Participants compete for cash prizes, based on weight loss and waist inches lost.
Prize money will be determined by the number of entries. The cost is $45.
Vendors are welcome to participate in the Jan. 14 event; the cost is $75.
The challenge is provided by GIME Fitness.

SPRING HILL
Registration open for YMCA swim lessons
The Hernando County Family YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd., is taking registrations for indoor swim lessons. Classes are available for children 3 and older, as well as teens and adults 13 and older.
Weekday evening classes will start the week of Jan. 16 and run through Feb. 9 (classes meet two days a week). Saturday classes will be offered Jan. 21 through Feb. 28.

BROOKRIDGE
Line dance social slated for Jan. 14
A Brookridge good Times Line Dance Social will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St.
DJ Dave will entertain with a mix of dances, for beginners to intermediate dancers. No lessons will be provided, but instructors will be on hand to assist.
Guests may bring their own snacks, beverages and ice. Admission is $5. For information, call (352) 397-6088.

New hours in effect at Hernando libraries
The Hernando County Public Library System has modified its hours at all branch libraries:
Hours for Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave., Brooksville, and the West Hernando/S.T. Foggia Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave., Spring Hill, are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.
Hours for the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, and the East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road, Ridge Manor West, are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
There are no changes for the Istachatta Library Station, 16257 Lingle Road, which is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
